JEE Main 2020 conducted by National Testing Agency (NTA) has recently released the Information brochure. A press release was also published on the website, www.jeemain.nta.nic.in, regarding change in the JEE 2020 exam pattern.

Earlier there were 2 different papers but with the new exam pattern there will be 3 different papers, i.e. for BE / B.Tech , B.Arch and B.Planning papers will be held separately. The application date of NTA JEE Main 2020 is released and the end date is 30th September 2019. JEE exam is conducted two times a year in online mode only. Changes in the JEE Main 2020 Exam Pattern

NTA has announced the changes in the JEE exam pattern for the year 2020. Unlike earlier years, JEE will now have separate papers for BE / B.Tech., B.Arch and B.Planning candidates. The number of questions have also been changed. The rest of the exam pattern remains the same, the changes are introduced in the number of questions asked and instead of two, now 3 papers will be conducted.

JEE Main 2020 Exam Pattern

Till the year 2019, only two papers were conducted, but as per the new pattern from the year 2020 onward three separate papers will be conducted for BE / B.Tech. , B.Arch, and B.Planning. Below is the detail on the sections in the exam and how many questions will be asked in each section.

JEE Main 2020 Paper for B.E. / B.Tech.
The BE/B.Tech candidates will see three sections in the JEE Main 2020, which will be: Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry with 25 questions each. Mode of exam will be CBT only.

JEE Main 2020 B. Arch Paper 
This will include three section, namely, Mathematics with 25 questions, Aptitude Test with 50 questions, and Drawing Test with 2 questions. The first two section will be conducted as CBT, while drawing test will be conducted on paper, it will be in offline mode.

JEE Main 2020 B. Planning paper 
The B. Planning paper for JEE Main 2020 will include 25 questions from Mathematics, 50 questions from Aptitude, and 25 planning based questions. The mode of exam will be CBT only.

The CBT will include MCQs and Numerical Value Type questions, where Mathematics, Physics, and Chemistry section will have 20 MCQs and 5 NVTs.

JEE Main 2020 Exam Shifts

The JEE Main 2020 January exam for B.E. / B.Tech and B.Arch candidates will be held in two shifts per day.
First Shift from 9:30 AM to 12:30 PM 
Second Shift from 2:30 PM to 5:30 PM


The JEE Main 2020 Exam for B.Planning will be held in only one shift, which will be from 2:30 PM to 5:30 PM

Exam timing for candidates who opt for both B. Planning and B.Arch. will be 2:30 PM to 6:00 PM.

JEE Main 2020 Eligibility Criteria

The JEE Main 2020 aspirants must check the eligibility criteria before filling the form online. Below are details:

  • Date of Birth: The candidates born on or after October 01, 1993 are eligible. Relaxation in upper age limit will be for candidates from SC/ST/PwD categories.
  • Year of Qualifying Examination: The candidates who have passed their 12th grade Exam or any other equivalent qualifying examination in the year 2018 or 2019; or those who are appearing in class 12th or equivalent exam in the year 2019 are eligible for JEE (Main) 2020.
  • Number of subjects in the Qualifying Examination (QE): To be eligible for JEE Main 2020 candidates should have at least five subjects in 12th class or equivalent qualifying examination. Candidates with four subjects in 12th class are not eligible for JEE (Main) 2020.

JEE Main 2020 Application Form

Candidates must check the JEE Main 2020 eligibility criteria prior filling the
JEE Main 2020 Application Form . The mode of application submission is online only.

The candidates are required to enter the Aadhar number to apply for JEE Main 2020, in case the candidates do not have the Aadhar, they shall not be able to fill the JEE Main 2020 Application Form. Those who have applied for the Aadhar card but haven’t received will be required to enter the 14 Digit Aadhar Enrolment Id. The candidates belonging to the states of Assam, Jammu & Kashmir, and Meghalaya will have to enter anyone of these required details; Ration card number, passport number, bank account number or number of any other valid government Id.

To apply online for JEE Main 2020, candidates need to visit the website, www.jeemain.nta.nic.in and click on “Fill Online Application Form“.

Candidates have to fill all the required details in the from, then upload their image, signature along with the father/guardian’s signature. Don’t forget to choose the right city where you want to appear for the test. After completing all the above steps, candidates will have to pay application fee to complete the JEE Main 2020 application submission process.
