Indian Railways is the fourth largest railway network in the world. Indian railways system is operated by the Ministry of Railways. Daily lakhs of people travel through trains. This transportation system connects many villages with cities. Daily approx 20,000 trains run on Indian railway tracks. With such a large number of trains, passengers, railway stations and tracks, railway department needs many employees to maintain it.

Recruitment rate in the ministry of the railway is above average and this department offers jobs for many candidates with different educational qualification. Ministry of Railways has jobs for B.Tech pass outs as well as for 10th class pass outs. Indian Railways is divided into four Groups according to the nature of work. These Groups are Group ‘A’, Group  ‘B’, Group ‘C’ and Group ‘D’.

In Group ‘A’ administration related work is done by gazetted officers. Recruitment of Group ‘A’ is done through competitive exams. Group ‘B’ has middle-level administration related work. Most of the recruitment is done by the department for Group ‘C’ and Group ‘D’.

·  Jobs in Railways for 10th Pass

Railway offers job to 10th pass outs in Group D. Following posts are included in Group ‘D’ of railway where minimum qualification is 10th and National Apprenticeship Certificate (NAC) granted by NCVT ‘OR’ 10th pass plus ITI from institutions recognised by NCVT/SCVT/ 10th pass ‘OR’ ITI from institutions recognised by NCVT/SCVT (or) equivalent ‘OR’ National Apprenticeship Certificate (NAC) granted by NCVT.

  • Helper
  • Porter
  • Khalasi
  • Cleaner
  • Peon
  • Vendor
  • Asst Pointsman
  • Hospital Attendant
  • Blacksmith
  • Book Binder
  • Carpenter
  • Fitter
  • Welder
  • Helpers in Electrical or Mechanical or Civil or Carriage and Wagon or track machines etc.
  • Loco Pilot and Assistant Loco Pilot

For the posts like Porter, Gateman, Sanitary Cleaner and Helper etc minimum required educational qualification is 10th only.

Age limit for the mentioned job is 18 years to 31 years. According to rules, candidates from a reserved category like SC, St, OBC, and PWD will get the relaxation in the upper limit of age.

Physical Efficiency Test is also applicable for few of the above-mentioned posts.

For Males: In physical efficiency test 1000 meter running in 4.15 minutes and running for 100 meters with carrying 35 kg weights in 2 minutes are included.

For Females: Female candidates should be able to run for 1000 meters within 5.40 minutes. Female applicants should be able to run for a distance of 100 meters in 2 minutes while carrying the weight of 20 kg.

Both male and female candidates will get only one chance for physical efficiency test.

· Jobs in Indian Railways for 12th Pass

If you have completed your 12th from any government recognized board then you can apply for the ticket collector’s post in railway. Indian Railways also has several other posts for 12th pass outs and here they are;

  • Nurse
  • Clerk
  • Stenographer
  • Ticket Examiner
  • Goods guard
  • Track maintainer
  • Telecommunication
  • Office clerk
  • Accounts clerk

Most of the above-mentioned posts come in Group C jobs in Indian Railways. Age Limit for mentioned jobs is 18 to 28 years. For few posts like Track Maintainer and Assistant Loco Pilot, a few technical qualifications are required.

· Jobs in Railways for Graduates

Indian Railways has many job opportunities for graduate applicants as well. Here are the details of posts that are available for graduate candidates.

· Jobs in Railways for B.Tech and M.Tech

Indian Railways has many job options for technical degree holders. Many candidates can join railway with ITI diploma but a few posts are also available for B.Tech and M.Tech degree holders. These posts come in Group ‘C’ of railway department. Here are a few of them.

  • Apprentice Signal Inspector (BE)
  • Trainee Elect (BE)

If you have a B.Tech degree then you can also apply for the post of the loco pilot. Most of the posts for the technical department come in Group ‘C’.  Candidates from Group ‘C’ get promoted to Group ‘B’. In Group ‘B’ the nature of work is the management of department at the middle level. Like Group ‘C’, Group ‘B’ also includes both technical and non-technical employees. Usually, there is no direct recruitment done for Group ‘B’.

 

· Jobs in Railways for MBBS

Indian railways also offer jobs for MBBS in railway’s hospitals. Qualification for this job is MBBS from a recognized University and must have completed a compulsory rotatory internship for one year and should be in possession of a valid Registration Certificate from any of the State Medical Council of India or MCI.

For specialist doctors qualification is  P.G. Qualification /Diploma Degree in the required specialty from a recognized university recognized by MCI and Registration Certificate from State Medical Council of India or MCI.
