King Ashvapati was the ruler of the Kekaya Kingdom. He ruled his kingdom in the late Vedic age or Upanishadic age. The Kekaya kingdom was situated in the east of Gandhar Kingdom (present Afganistan) on the bank of river Beas. He and King Janak of Videha were contemporary kings. 

It is said that king Ashvapati was the father of princess Kakayi that got married to Ayodhya King Dashrath. In Hindu mythology, Kakayi is an important character.
