Answer 1: The Supreme Court of India in a recent ruling has declared that women are allowed to serve as permanently commissioned (PC) officers in Indian Army’s 10 combat support arms and services. Now, women officers can serve until the age of retirement and will not be forced to switch to alternative careers after 14 years of service.

Answer 2: Social Justice and Empowerment Minister Thaawarchand Gehlot is to launch a 24×7 Toll-Free Mental Health Rehabilitation Helpline called “KIRAN” on September 7, 2020. The helpline number is developed by the Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities under Ministry of Social Justice & Empowerment. The helpline number is 1800-500-0019.

Answer 3: Google has recently partnered with the Bangladesh Water Development Board for flood forecasting. The aim is to introduce flood warning services in Bangladesh. The system at present covers over 40 million people in the country and the objective is to expand its coverage to the entire nation. 

Answer 4: The government of India has banned 118 Chinese apps amid tension over recent Chinese provocation in Ladakh. The app ban is in the interest of the country’s sovereignty and integrity, defence and security. The 118 apps include PUBG mobile which is the world’s top five smartphone games that has more than 734 million downloads.

Answer 5: French satirical weekly magazine Charlie Hebdo has reprinted the controversial cartoons depicting the ‘Prophet Mohammed’ to signify the start of the trial against alleged accomplices to a targeted massacre by Islamist gunmen in 2015.
