Answer 1: National Wildlife Week is celebrated every year in India from 2-8 October. The week is being celebrated since 1954 to save the lives of Indian animals by exercising critical steps. This year the week is celebrated under the Theme: RoaR (Roar and Revive) – Exploring Human-Animal Relationships.

Answer 2: India successfully test-fired the new version of nuclear-capable “SHAURYA” missile in Balasore, Odisha, on 3rd October 2020. The 10-metre-long Shaurya missile has a strike range of about 800 kilometres.

Answer 3: On 2nd Oct 2020, NASA launched a commercial cargo spacecraft (Northrop Grumman’s Cygnus Spacecraft) named after India-born deceased NASA Astronaut Kalpana Chawla. The spacecraft was launched from
Wallops Flight Facility of the National Aeronautics and Space Administration.

Answer 4: The Swachh Bharat Awards, 2020 were presented under three categories namely Gandagi Mukth Bharat, Swachh Sundar Samudayik Shouchalaya and Samudayik Shouchalaya Abhiyan. Gujarat at the state level has won the first prize under Swachh Sundar Samudayik Shouchalaya category.

Answer 5: Devyani Khobragade, an Indian Foreign Service officer, is appointed as India’s next ambassador to Cambodia.

Answer 6: Lt Gen Harinder Singh, Commander 14 Corps, is appointed head of the Dehradun-based Indian Military Academy succeeding Lt Gen Jaiveer Singh Negi.

Answer 7: On October 2, International Day of Non-Violence is observed every year to commemorate the birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi. The United Nations General Assembly established the day in 2007. The objective of the day is to spread the message of non-violence by public awareness and education.

Answer 8: ISRO’s Venus Mission, SHUKRAYAAN is to be launched in 2025. On 30th September 2020, the French Space Agency CNES made an announcement about its participation in the mission.
