Answers:

Ans.1     The first phase of Lok Sabha Elections 2019 began on April 11, 2019, in India. The first phase of voting began for 91 Parliamentary constituencies, out of the total 543 constituencies.

Ans.2     Justice K.M. Joseph while delivering a separate judgment in the Rafale case said that the Right to Information Act confers on ordinary citizens the ‘priceless right’ to demand information even in matters affecting national security and relations with a foreign state. Justice K.M. Joseph mentioned about article 8(2) RTI act.  

Ans.3     The schemes of the West Bengal government named as  ‘Utkarsh Bangla’ (skill training of youth) and ‘Sabooj Sathi’ (cycles for students) won the World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS) awards of UN.

Utkarsh Bangla Scheme is aimed at providing vocational training to school dropouts and Sabooj Sathi is a scheme of West Bengal government for distribution of bicycles to the students of class IX to XII studying in Govt. run and Govt. Aid schools

Ans.4     Election Commission banned the biopic based on the life of PM Narendra Modi. This movie was to release on 11 April 2019. EC also released a statement that any biopic material in nature of biography which has potential to disturb level playing field during the election, should not be displayed in electronic media including cinematograph during the operation of the Model Code of Conduct.

Ans.5     Supreme Court said in one of its judgment that any woman who fled her marital or matrimonial home due to the cruelty of dowry harassment can file a case of dowry harassment against her husband and in-laws from the place she has taken shelter.  

Ans.6      IIT Madras tops the list of top ten engineering colleges in India. President of India Ram  Nath Kovind, released National Institutional Ranking Framework -2019 (NIRF) to present the award to top 8 engineering institutes.

Ans.7     British Prime Minister Theresa May expressed deep regret over the April 1919 Jallianwala Bagh massacre and called the massacre a ‘shameful scar’ on British Indian history.  

Ans.8     Hong Kong’s equity market has overtaken Japan to be the world’s third largest in value, behind only the U.S. and mainland China. 

Ans.9     International Day of Human Space Flight 2019 was celebrated on April 12. This day was celebrated to commemorate the date of the first human space flight in the history of mankind.

Ans.10  Russia has awarded PM Narendra Modi with ‘Order of St Andrew the Apostle’ for promoting the bilateral special and privileged strategic partnership between both countries.

Ans.11  Astronomers took the first-ever image of a black hole located in a distant galaxy. This image was captured by the Event Horizon Telescope (EHT), a network of eight linked telescopes. It measures 40 billion km across and scientists described it as “a monster”.

Ans.12  HDFC Banks tops the list of best Indian bank by Forbes.

Ans.13  RBL Banks ties up with credit profiler CreditVidya to improve the lender’s customer experience.

Ans. 14 Senior US Treasury official David Malpass has been chosen as the new President of the World Bank. He has been worked as an economic advisor to Donald Trump.

Ans.15  The HRD ministry issued a statement about appointing Professor Najma Akhtar as vice–chancellor of Jamia Millia Islam about Professor Najma Akhtar as vice–chancellor of Jamia Millia Islamia University (JMI) by the President of India for a period of 5 years.

Ans.16  Nitin Chugh, digital banking head of private sector lender HDFC Bank, is likely to succeed Samit Ghosh, MD, and CEO of Ujjivan Small Finance Bank.

Ans.17  Ajay Dixit, the CEO of the Aluminum and Power divisions of Vedanta, will take over from Mr.Mathur in the interim, after his exit.

Ans.18   Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is set to win a record fifth term in the country’s most closely-fought general election. He will continue to lead the country with 99 percent of vote counts.
