Answer 1: On 11th October 2020, Rafael Nadal won the French Open, 2020 winning against Novak Djokovic. This is his 13th French Open and 20th Grand Slam title.

Answer 2: The International Day of the Girl Child is celebrated every year on October 11 by UNICEF. This year, the day was celebrated under the theme “My voice, our equal future.”

Answer 3: The World Mental Health Day is celebrated every year on October 10. It was initiated by the World Federation for Mental Health. This year, the day was celebrated under the theme, Mental Health for All-Greater Investment – Greater Access.

Answer 4: On 9th October 2020, it was announced by the Ministry of Jal Shakti that Goa has become the first Indian state to provide 100% tap water connections in rural areas. Under this, the state has covered approx. 2.3 lakh households.

Answer 5: The Nobel Prize for Peace, 2020 has been conferred to the World Food Programme (WFP) for its contributions towards making better peace conditions in conflict-affected areas.

Answer 6: Nigeria’s Ngozi Okonjo Iweala and South Korea’s Yoo Myung-hee are the two finalists to become the next Director-General of WTO. For the first time in the history, WTO will be led by a woman.

Answer 7: The Nobel Prize, 2020 was conferred to Louise Gluck for her poetry. She became the first female poet to win the Nobel prize since Wislawa Szymborska in 1996. 

Answer 8: M Rajeshwar Rao has been appointed as the new Deputy Governor of Reserve Bank of India by the Government of India. The was vacant since March 2020 after the previous Deputy Governor N R Vishwanathan before the completion of his term resigned due to health issues.

Answer 9: The PM SVANidhi scheme was launched this year under the Atma Nirbhar Bharat Abhiyan to provide a capital loan of Rs 10000 to the street vendors. On 7th October 2020, an API (Application Programming Integration) was launched by the Government of India between the State Bank of India portal and PM SVANidhi Portal.

Answer 10: The Nobel Prize for Chemistry, 2020 has been conferred to Emmanuelle Charpentier and Jennifer A Doudna for “Development of a method for Genome Editing”, the scientists have developed “CRISPR-Cas9 Snipping Scissors”, which is a gene-editing technique.
