NTA is a newly formed agency and on behalf of UGC, it is going to conduct the National Eligibility Test (NET). NTA has released the UGC NET December 2018 notification. NTA (National Testing Agency) has published the notification of UGC NET December 2018 on its official website nta.ac.in.
In previous years the NET examination used to be conducted once in a year, to fill up the post of assistant professor and junior research fellowship. But from this year, NET will be conducted twice in a year.
The first examination of UGC NET will be held on December 9 to 23, 2018, and the second UGC NET exam will be scheduled in the month of July 2019. This examination is conducted in 84 subjects at 91 selected cities. In this examination, candidates can appear with their post graduation subjects only.
NTA has scheduled the upcoming UGC NET exam ‘only for Assistant Professor’ or for ‘both Junior Research Fellowship and Assistant Professor’. After qualifying JRF examination, the candidate will be eligible to get the fellowship of UGC.
The validity period of the offer will be three years. The application process of UGC NET has been started from 1st September 2018. The aspirants can apply online for the mentioned posts on or before 30th September 2018.

Eligibility Criteria
Age
Considering 1st December 2018 as a cut off date the maximum age of candidates for Junior Research Fellowship should be 30 years. The relaxation in the age limit will remain the same.
For Assistant Professor, no upper age limit.
Educational qualification
To appear in the exam of UGC NET December 2018, the aspirants must have completed his/her master degree with minimum 55% marks from a recognized university. OBC/SC/ST/PwD will get the relaxation of 5% marks.
Candidates in the last year of their masters and those whose result is still awaited can also apply for UGC NET December 2018 exam.
Relaxation
P.hd degree holder candidate, who has completed his/her masters by September 19, 1991, shall be eligible for a relaxation of 5 percent in aggregate marks.
For the appointment of the Asst. Professor, NET/SET/SLET is the minimum eligibility. Candidate, who has cleared SET before June 2002, can apply for the post of Asst. Professor anywhere in India. This candidate will also be exempted from appearing in NET.
Exam Pattern
The examination of NET shall be conducted as a computer based test. The examination will consist of two papers. Only objective type questions will be asked in these papers. There will be a break of 30 minutes between Paper-I and Paper-II.
Paper-I will have total 50 questions for 100 marks. The duration of exam will be 1 hr and the timings will be 09.30 AM to 10.30 AM, IST.
Paper-II will have 100 questions for 200 marks. The duration of the exam will be 2 hrs and the timings will be 11.00 AM to 01.00 PM, IST.
