Ans.1     Dr. Gutta Muniratnam has been chosen for the ‘Muppavarapu National Award for Social Service’. This award will be given to him for his contributions to improving the quality of people’s lives through his activities.

Ans.2     Minister of Petroleum and Natural Gas, Shri Dharmendra Pradhan launched ‘Saksham’ on January 16, 2020. It is a month-long People-centric fuel conservation mega campaign of Petroleum Conservation Research Association (PCRA) under the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas.

Ans.3     Arunachal Pradesh (AR) has become the 1st State in India to initiate the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN)’s ‘red listing’ of orchids.  The state has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) for this.

Ans.4     ISRO launched GSAT-30 ABOARD Ariane 5  from French Guiana in collaboration with the European space agency on January 17, 2020. It is a communication satellite and it will replace INSAT-4A spacecraft.

Ans.5     Bru-Reang community has got the permission to settle in Tripura officially. On January 16, 2020, the Union Home Affairs Minister Amit Shah signed an agreement between the central government, Tripura and Mizoram and the Bru-Reang representatives for the same.

Ans.6     World Health Organisation (WHO) released the Global challenges for 2020. In these challenging following diseases are included; Antimicrobial resistance (AMR), climate crisis, the eventuality of an influenza epidemic and spread of infectious diseases such as malaria, HIV (Human immunodeficiency virus) and tuberculosis (TB). It is the second straight year that these challenges have topped the WHO list.

Ans.7     Infosys, an Indian software company has signed a deal in partnering with the Paris-based GEFCO to digitize its multi-modal supply chain solutions and support its digital transformation. This deal is for the next five years.

Ans.8     Iranian Parliament has approved a triple-urgency bill that designates the US army and the Pentagon as a Terrorist entity.

Ans.9  The first phase of the world’s second-largest Muslim congregation after Haj has begun on the outskirts of Dhaka. At the bank of river Turag at Tongi near Dhaka, many devotees are gathered to participate in the congregation called Bishwa Ijtema.

Ans.10  Zoran Milanovic has won the presidential election of Croatia. He is the former Prime Minister of Croatia, who has pledged to make Croatia a tolerant country.

Ans.11  Haitham bin Tariq al-Said has taken over as the sultan of Oman after the death of Late Sultan Qaboos bin Saeed. The late sultan had ruled Oman since 1970 as the 8th Sultan of the House of Al Said. The late sultan had himself chose Haitham Bin Tareq Al Saeed (cousin of late Sultan Qaboos) as his successor, as the Sultan had no children.

Ans.12  The Italian midfielder Daniele De Rossi (37-year-old) announced his decision to retire from football in order to spend more time with his family. He was the part of the winning team at the FIFA World Cup in 2006.

Ans.13  Ladakh won the tournament of Ice Hockey organized by the Ice Hockey Association of India (IHAI) in association with the Ladakh winter sports club.

Ans.14  Axis Bank and ICICI Bank have decided to end their operations in Sri Lanka. The Central Bank of Sri Lanka has also permitted these two Indian banks to close their operations in the island nation.

Ans. 15  RBI has revised the supervisory action framework for Urban co-operative banks (UCBs).
