IBPS is a banking industry established in 1975. If you want to build your professional career in a public sector bank, you’ll have to take exams conducted by IBPS.

The registration for IBPS Clerical Exam started on 22nd August 2016 and ends on 12th September 2016. Your age should be between 20 to 28 years. There will only be online tests for final selection for the year 2016.

The IBPS Clerical Exam has 2 parts:

Preliminary Exam:

The pattern of this exam would be same like previous exams. It will consist of 100 questions which are to be answered within 60 minutes. The questions will further be divided into 2 parts; the exam will compromise 30 English questions,

35 questions of quantitative skills and 30 questions of reasoning. If the candidate scores required marks, he will be counted into the candidates who will appear for mains examination.

The Preliminary Exam will be held on 26th and 27th November 2016, and 3rd and 4th December 2016.

Mains Examination:

This examination will be divided into following sections: quant, reasoning, English, computer aptitude and general awareness. Each section will consist of 40 questions but would have a different weightage of marks, making a total of 200 questions and 200 marks.

The reasoning and the quant section are of 50 marks, English and general awareness of 40 marks, and computer aptitude’s marks are 20 this time. Another new implementation in IBPS examination is that each section would have specified time.

Total time allocated for mains examination is 135 minutes which consists of 30 minutes for quant, 30 minutes for reasoning, 30 minutes for English, 20 minutes for computer aptitude and 25 minutes for general awareness.

The Mains Exam will be held on 31st December 2016 and 1st January 2017.

How to deal with the new pattern of IBPS examination?

First of all, the advantageous news is that you don’t have to worry about preliminary section as there are no changes in it so you can prepare for it the same way you did last year.

Be aware that the reasoning and the quant section has more marks than before therefore spend more time in their preparation; practice their questions more austerely.

The time i.e. 20 minutes assigned to computer aptitude section is more than sufficient so don’t panic thinking that only 20 minutes are allocated to this section.

There is a penalty of negative 0.25 marks if you answer a question wrong hence answer the questions you are certain about as if you don’t answer a question, no mark will be awarded or deducted.

The total time allocated for mains examination has increased to 135 minutes from 120 minutes last year.

Although you get more time this year, but IBPS has assigned a specific time for each section and you will only be allowed to attempt questions of individual sections during the allotted time. So, be careful about it and prepare accordingly. Work hard on your time management.

You wouldn’t get a chance to come back to a section after the time for that section has finished.
