Indian women have unquestionably proved their importance and bravery in this male-dominated world. They have always fought for their rights, despite of all traditional and cultural restrictions. 1. Nirupama Rao
She was the first female full-term Indian foreign secretary. She worked to transform the Indo-US ties. Besides this, she was also the first spokeswoman of the Indian Ministry of External Affairs.
2. Chanda Kochchar
She heads India’s biggest private bank, ICICI Bank. She became ICICI Bank head when there were very few women chief executive officers (CEOs) in India.
3. Kiran Bedi
First woman IPS officer of India. She joined the Indian Police Service in 1972, and since then has been known for her works related to social justice.
4. Saina Nehwal
Saina is the first Indian women to win the World Junior Badminton Championships. She is the lady who won India its first medal at the London Olympics in badminton. In a country like India, where people appreciate only cricket, she has earned her own place in the world of sports. Her dedication and success has inspired many Indians to play badminton.
5. Arundhati Roy
Arundhati is well known for her debut novel titled “The God of Small Things.” Her debut novel helped her won the 1997 Man Booker Prize for Fiction. She is one of the few Indian ladies who have been listed in Forbes’ 30 Inspiring Women list.
6. Mary Kom
Mary Kom is an outstanding example for women, her passion for boxing and success story shows what a women can achieve. She has been honoured with Padma Bhushan, the third highest civilian award.
7. Kiran Mazumdar Shaw
She is chairman and managing director of Asia’s largest biopharma firm Biocon. She started the company in 1978 with 10,000, and today the company is worth millions. She is not only a successful businesswoman, but is a great philanthropists also. She donates millions to charities to make medicines available to the poor in Asia.
8. Chitra Ramakrishna
She is the first woman to head the National Stock Exchange (NSE). She started working with NSE in 1991. She took charge of NSE at the time when it was facing a hard-hitting competition from other bourses.
9. Vinita Bali
Bali was the managing director of Britannia Industries Ltd. She started her professional career with engineering company Voltas. Also, she is the only Indian member of the United Nations 27-member committee for ‘Scaling up Nutrition’ movement.
10. Barkha Dutt
The journalistic accomplishments of Barkha Dutt are highly appreciable. She is the lady who moved ahead for the coverage of the Kargil war, which brought her a lot of criticism also. But, most hopeful journalists see her as a role model.
