Key Facts

A plastic park is an industrial zone dedicated to plastic and related sectors. This industrial zone includes companies required by the plastics processing community for the supply of material and machinery suppliers, processing and recycling of plastics as well as waste management.
Out of the 10 plastic parks proposed under the scheme, 6 will be set up in the state of Uttarakhand, Madhya Pradesh, Odisha, Assam, Tamil Nadu, Chhattisgarh and Jharkhand.
The draft plan for the remaining four is still in process.
The project cost for setting up the park has been sealed by the Government of India at Rs 40 crore per project. The remaining cost to be borne by the state government.
The details on Plastic Park Scheme were presented in Rajya Sabha by the Union Minister for Chemicals and Fertilizers Shri Sadananda Gowda.

India’s share in the global market of plastics is pretty low.
The global trade of plastics is approx. 1 trillion USD. In this global trade, Indi’s share is just 1%.

What is Plastic Parks Scheme?

The Plastic Parks Scheme aims to boost the value addition and competitiveness in the plastics processing industry. The scheme strives to achieve it through measures led by research and development.
The plastic industry is classified into two broad categories in India.
The first is polymer manufacturing that is called upstream category.
The second category is industries involved in the conversion of processable polymers (raw plastic material) into useful end products. These industries are called downstream.

The Challenges

Plastic Recycling is a major challenge in India. Due to the improper disposal and management of plastic, it has become an even bigger issue.
In India, only 60 per cent of the total plastic waste gets recycled.
The pollution caused by plastic is endangering aquatic resources at a more extensive scale.

When we know the process of plastic recycling we can manage plastic waste in a much better way as well as can contributes to a better and safer environment for tomorrow.

Plastic is majorly used for manufacturing daily need products that are used on households, offices etc. The maximum amount of plastic comes from garbage. Recycling of plastics will put it into a circular economy.
Plastic waste when accumulated makes large piles of waste on the landfill that takes ages to decompose. Furthur it occupies space, decompose fills the land and leads to the release of toxic air and pollution that leads to diseases. Recycling keeps all this at bay.
