Answer 1: Union Minister of Power (Independent Charge) Raj Kumar Singh and Coal, Mines and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Prahlad Joshi jointly launched ‘PRAKASH – Power Rail Koyla Availability through Supply Harmony’ Portal for improved coordination between the Indian Railways, ministries of power & coal for coal supply to power plants. This portal will help all the stakeholders to monitor coal supply right from coalmines to transportation. 

Answer 2: Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik launched his government’s new governance initiative ‘Mo Sarkar’ on the occasion of Gandhi Jayanti. The ‘Mo Sarkar’ was launched at all police stations across Orissa along with 21 district headquarters hospitals and 3 government-run medical college hospitals at Berhampur, Cuttack, and Sambalpur. Mo Sarkar will be effective at all the district headquarters hospitals in Orissa by October 30.

‘Mo Sarkar’ initiavte’s aim is to offer service with dignity to people who visit government offices for various purposes. The contact number of people visiting  government offices will be collected in order to improve the governance system.

Answer 3: ‘Urjagiri’, a campaign to prevent line loss and power thefts is launched by the state of Uttarakhand, which started on 2nd of October 2019. Uttarakhand Chief Minister Trivendra Singh Rawat said that the distribution losses have been curtailed from 29.52 to 14.32 percent at the time of creation of the state. He also said that the initiative aims to bring down the loses to 13 percent.

Answer 4: Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Jagan Mohan Reddy in Eluru town of West Godavari district launched the ‘YSR Vahana Mitra’ welfare scheme. Under this scheme an annual cash incentive of Rs 10,000 will be provided to drivers of taxis, autos, and maxi-cabs, including those also who own their vehicles.

Answer 5: Home Minister Amit Shah inaugurated the luxurious Vande Bharat Express, which will run between Delhi and Katra station in Jammu & Kashmir. The train can run up to a maximum speed of 160 km per hour. The first such train was launched between Delhi and Varanasi.

Answer 6: Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur launched Pragati Rath of the HDFC bank. The bank provided a cheque of Rs.1 crore to the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund during the launch. HDFC bank has also announced that it will launch the Sustainable Livelihood Initiative in the State.

Answer 7:  The Wildlife Week is celebrated all over the country every year from 2nd October to 8th October. The aim of Wildlife Week is to preserve animal life in India. During the week, campaigns and events are organized to teach people about animal life and encourage them to save animals by not killing them for food and other purposes. The theme for Wildlife Week 2019 is “Life Below Water: For people and planet”.

Answer 8:  Indian Army will begin its first ever mountain combat exercise in Arunachal Pradesh on October 7, 2019. The mountain combat exercise, which will be conducted in two phases, is to test the mobility, communication and coordination of the troops in difficult terrain.

Answer 11:  On 150th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi, Prime Minister Narendra Modi released the commemorative coins of Rs.150 denomination. The coin was launched at an event held at Sabarmati Ashram in Ahmedabad, Gujarat.

Answer 12:  US tested an unarmed Minuteman III intercontinental ballistic missile, which was launched from the California base. This ballistic missile traveled 6,750 km across Pacific Ocean to the Kwajalein Atoll in Marshall Islands.

Answer 13: Ecuador will withdraw from 14-nation Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) from January 1, 2020. The country has stated its internal fiscal problems as the reason for withdrawal from the OPEC.

Answer 14: The annual military exercise “KAZIND 2019” between India and Kazakhstan army commenced at Pithoragarh, Uttarakhand on October 3, 2019. This is the 4th edition of this joint military exercise,  will conclude on 15th October 2019. This is a 72-hour exercise, which will display the joint skills of soldiers along with conducting counter insurgency and counter terrorism operations.

Answer 15:  As part of Indian Navy’s Overseas Deployment to Africa, Europe and Russia, the Indian Naval Ship (INS) Tarkash arrived at St Denis, Reunion Island, France on October 3, 2019 for a 3 day visit. Indian Navy ships are regularly deployed overseas as part of Indian Navy’s mission of building ‘bridges of friendship’ as well as strengthening international cooperation with friendly countries.

Answer 16:  The World Economic Forum organized India Economic Summit on 3rd and 4th of October 2019 in New Delhi. The forum was hosted in collaboration with CII – Confederation of Indian Industry. The summit had a special focus on collaboration with South Asia and ASEAN countries. Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, co-chaired the summit with Singapore Deputy Prime Minister Heng Swee Keat, and Sania Mirza representing UN Women.

Answer 17:  Kolkata-based Bandhan Bank and Ahmedabad-based Gruh Finance announced their merger, which will take place on 17th October 2019. The National Company Law Tribunal (NCLT) has approved the scheme of amalgamation for this merger.

Answer 18:  The State Bank of India (SBI) became the first bank to open its office in Melbourne, Victoria, Australian. The Melbourne office of SBI will contribute in growing investment and trade relations between India and Victoria, as stated in the press release.

Answer 19:  The Central Bank of Nepal released 3 coins with denomination of NPR (Nepali Rupees) 100, 1000 and 2500 to commemorate the birth anniversary of Sikh Guru Nanak Dev. Governor of Nepal Rastra Bank (NRB) Chiranjibi Nepal and Indian Ambassador to Nepal Manjeev Singh Puri jointly launched the coins.

Answer 20:  Sachin Tendulkar was awarded “The most effective Swachhata Ambassador” at the Safaigiri 2019 organized by the India Today group. He was chosen as he utilized his popularity and fame to ensure India achieve its goal of Swachh Bharat.

Answer 21:  Elgi Equipments has won the 2019 Deming Prize for the sustained application & leverage of TQM (Total Quality Management) across the organization. It is one of the highest award on TQM in the world and since its establishment in the year 1951; it has been awarded to 251 organizations across the globe.

Answer 22: Indian journalist Kallie Puri was honoured with “India’s Most Powerful Women in Media” award at the Confluence Excellence Awards at the British Parliament. She is currently serving as the Vice-Chairperson of the India Today Group.

Answer 23: The Appointments Committee of Cabinet (ACC) has approved the appointment of Economist Surjit S Bhalla as Executive Director for India on board of International Monetary Fund (IMF). Mr. Bhalla, who is 71 years, is appointed for a period of 3 years from the date of assumption of charge of the post or until further orders, whichever is earlier.

Answer 24:  Former Sri Lanka captain Kumar Sangakkara has been appointed as president of the Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC). He is the first non-British president of the MCC. He will hold this position for one year.

Answer 25: A Supreme Court bench headed by Chief Justice of India (CJI) Ranjan Gogoi has recommended Rajendra Menon, former Delhi High Court Chief Justice, as the next chairman of Armed Forces Tribunal (AFT).
