With dark clouds hovering over the 63rd Annual Grammy Awards Ceremony, people wondered if the biggest event in the music industry would fall prey to Covid. Certainly, nothing much was in the hands. As the cases continued to rise, the officials were forced to postpone the annual award ceremony from January to mid of March. But, conducting the event while following all the Covid protocols even in the month of March was a huge and humongous task.

Owing to the rising cases and intensity of the issue, Grammy Awards 2021 could not take place at its traditional venue of the Staples Center and was shifted to the outdoor location of Southern California in downtown Los Angeles. The unprecedented time like this, called for some unprecedented moves and the 2021 Grammy Awards which was presented on March 14, 2021 was reduced to a socially distanced award presentation ceremony, where some of the biggest stars of the music industry sat at small, safely spaced tables in open tents wearing masks.

Surely, the Grammy Awards 2021 did not have any audience in person but that did not reduce it to a mere virtual award show either. The event was conducted at an outdoor location and the host constantly cracked funny jokes and he walked along the red carpet to an indoor venue featuring five stages in the round, with artists performing for each other and the audience before another set of artists replaces them 45 minutes later. All this was done, without tinkering with the Covid protocols. The show worked with COVID-19 experts to make sure everyone followed the necessary protocols to remain safe. The event also highlighted the toll that COVID-19 had made on the live entertainment and the intensity with which it has affected the lives of those closely associated with it.
