‘Deshbhakti’ Budget By Delhi Government

The budget for financial year 2021-2022 presented by Delhi Government on 9 March 2021. The budget presented is for ₹69,000-crore themed on patriotism.

‘Deshbhakti’ Budget Presented

The budget was presented by the Delhi’s Deputy Chief Minister, Manish Sisodia. While presenting the budget, he also announced that the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government has decided to celebrate 75th Independence Day of India and will hold programmes starting 12 March 2021 which will last for 75 weeks.

‘Deshbhakti’ Budget – Key Highlights

• Under the “Deshbhakti Budget”, AAP government has proposed to allocate Rupees 45 crores with an aim to install high masts in order to hoist the national flag in the national capital at 500 places.
• Mr. Sisodia mentioned that the Deshbhakti period will also be organised in the city schools.
• With the budget introduction, the government of Delhi intends to increase National Capital’s per capita income to reach to the level of Singapore by the year 2047.
• Delhi government’s this year budget total accounts for 6.1 per cent more than the budget presented by it in the financial 2020-21.
• The budget also highlights the allocation of rupees 10 crores for the programmes on the life of Bhagat Singh during the Deshbhakti celebrations.
• This year’s budget accounts for the budget outlay of more than 6.1 percent than the budget presented for financial 2020-21.

A Look At Economy of the National Capital

• Delhi’s economy is 13th largest among all the Indian states and union territories.
• The contraction in gross state domestic product (GSDP) of Delhi was expected at 5.86 per cent in the fiscal year 2020-2021.
• The nominal GSDP of the national capital was estimated at Rs 6.86 lakh crores for the fiscal year 2017-2018.
• The growth rate for the year 2014-15 was 9.2%. The tertiary sector contributed about 85% of the GSDP in the national capital in the fiscal year 2017-18, while the contribution of secondary and primary sectors was 12% and 3% respectively.
• The annual growth of 7.3% was recorded by the services sector.
• National Capital Territory is also the largest commercial centre in the Northern India.
• The economy of Urban area in Delhi was accounted for 295 billion dollars as of 2020.
