All you need to know about mobile application GARV-II

The GARV app was released by the Indian Union Power Ministry under Piyush Goyal in 2015 to monitor the progress of the government’s rural electrification scheme and to provide real-time updates of 18,452 un-electrified villages of the country.

The Union Power Ministry has been planning to launch the second version of the mobile application calling it GARV-II. The new version of the app will provide real time data of country’s all electrified and un-electrified villages, which are about six lakh. The app will also ensure transparency in the implementation of the rural electrification programme.

GARV-II App will open the progress of government’s rural electrification work to public scrutiny. Citizens of the country will be able to participate in this rural development work and can also give their input about rural electrification programme through e-mail and SMS.

What GARV-II App will provide:

• The app will provide village-wise; habitation-wise base line data on household electrification for all Indian states.
• The village-wise works that are sanctioned under Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Gram Jyoti Yojana (DDUGJY) have been mapped for monitoring progress of electrification work in each village.
• GARV-II app will map and provide data of all villages, which are about 6 lakh in number, with over 15 lakh habitations, along with tracking progress on electrification of household in each of the habitations of these villages.
• The GARV-II App will have a citizen engagement window called ‘SAMVAD’ to enhance people participation. The app will automatically forward suggestions and feedbacks of people to Managing Directors and Superintending Engineers of electricity distribution companies of India (DISCOMs) through e-mail and SMS.
• The app will also track the status of funds released to all the states for electrification projects sanctioned under DDUGJY.
• The app aims to bring electricity to all rural households as over 11,000 villages out of 18,452 un-electrified villages have already been electrified by government.

The Ministry has said that progress made on works will be updated by the implementing agencies of the states on daily basis. A dashboard for Managing Directors and Superintending Engineers of electricity distribution companies of India (DISCOMs) has been provided for online monitoring.
