Aaykar Setu – A Tax Payer Service Module

The current Indian government is looking to improve country’s tax service and make them readily available to the tax payers; in this endeavour, they have introduced Aaykar Setu.

What is Aaykar Setu?

Aaykar Setu is an android based application launched by Finance Minister Arun Jaitley. This application’s name translates to ‘taxpayer’s bridge’ as it will enable individuals to track TDS, apply for PAN (Permanent Account Number) and pay taxes. It also allows taxpayers to link their PAN card with the 12-digit Aadhaar number.

Finance Minister Jaitley’s views on Aaykar Setu

During the Aaykar Setu’s launch event, Minister Jaitley said: “This e-initiative would help in reducing physical interface between assesses and tax-assessing authorities, thus reducing the chances of any tax harassment.” Jaitley also said “This is an essential step forward by the CBDT and the principle reason being technology as a potent tool becomes an enabler. With the app, the assessee can discharge most of the work sitting at home without any external help.”

Key Features of Aaykar Setu

• Aaykar Setu is available in the form of a mobile application as well as a desktop version to facilitate both mobile and desktop users.
• This application strives to reduce the direct physical interface between tax-assessing authorities and tax-assesses as well as refining tax payer services.
• Direct communication on matters such as tax services, the range of multiple informative, etc. between the ITD (Income Tax Department) and tax payers will be allowed by the application.
• Regular updates regarding crucial issues like tax dates, forms and notifications will be received by the tax payers to the number they registered with the ITD.
• Aaykar Setu allows you to perform functions like track TDS, pay taxes, and apply for PAN card. You can also to link your PAN card with 12-digit biometric identifier Aadhaar card number in this application.
• Various tax tools such as dynamic updates, live chat facility, and relevant links to various processes within the country’s Income Tax Department are also available in the Aaykar Setu module.
