Significance of education planning increases in a populated country like India. So, education planning was an essential area of country’s five years plan. The five-year plan was first introduced in India in 1951, but in 2007 it was dedicated as ‘India’s Education Plan’. The GOI introduced different plans under education panning. The main aim of education planning is to promote education that can help youth take up upcoming challenges in terms of career and social changes. You must be thinking, what is education planning, and why is it even required? All sectors need planning to overcome the present and upcoming challenges.

An increasing number of aspirants, rising manpower demand, rise in economy and skilled manpower crunch has increased the significance of education planning. If you are unsure about the importance of education planning and want to understand it, you are on the right page. In India, the importance and significance of education planning increase as it’s a country with more young people. The population of India needs education, but we have school drop-outs in crores, and the unemployment rate is ever increasing. Earlier, the education planning used to be a part of a five-year plan, but since 2017, the GOI has dissolved the 5-year plan and planning commission. What is Education Planning?

Planning is an essential process for making a decision for the future. It’s important for every individual, organization and even for a country. Plans describe how the steps will be taken and what are resources required to complete the planned task. It’s important to achieve something good for tomorrow; a plan is prepared and executed.

Now, look at the importance of education planning in India’s context. We all know that education is the right of every child, and they should get it. Education creates confident and knowledgeable citizens that can make the society and country better. So, we had education planning as a part of a five-year plan. Education planning is a rational and systematic analysis to bring education easy to access for all, more relevant, effective and a tool to lead a better life.

Importance of Education Planning

To understand the importance of education planning, we will have to first agree that education is essential for all and it should be promoted at different levels. The education system in India is monitored basically on three levels; District, State and Central. The central Government makes the panning, the state executes it, and the district makes sure that planning is favourable to the people and executed properly. Now you must be thinking that why education planning is required in India? For this, we can divide India’s education system into two phases; Pre Independence and post Independence. In pre-independence, due to poverty, lack of schools, the youngest kids could not get an education. In the post-independence era, the Government of India had to create the infrastructure for education to Education planning was introduced in 1951′ five-year plan. Since then to now the number of schools (owned by the state and central government) has increased.

India is a country of villages where most people are connected with the farming and agriculture sector. Most farmers have to take help of their kids in farming, and with a mindset of involving the kid in farming, they neglect the importance of education. The colleges for higher education are far from the villages, which is another reason students could not continue their studies. To make more people educated in the country and the education planning is essential for India. Being a young country, the right and properly implemented education planning can give young doctors, scientists, and engineers. A well-educated society makes a better and more self-dependent country.

Hurdles for Education Planning in India

Education planning is crucial in India as it’s a country of language and cultural diversity. In 2021, the literacy rate in India is 86.6% which is better in comparison of previous years. But the difference in male and female literacy is still noticeable. For males the literacy rate is 89.53 per cent, but for female it is just 75.93 per cent.

Moreover, many people are involved in farming that generally doesn’t need any special skills as father transfer the methods to his kids and successors. So, education planning is not easy in India. Here have a look at the issues that make education planning difficult in India;

  • Rising Population
  • In-sufficient schools in-country
  • Lack of proper infrastructure in schools
  • Various Openings for teachers in government schools
  • High teacher absent rate
  • The high number of school drop-outs
  • Lack of parents and public involvement in education
  • Earning achievement are not encouraged
  • Lack of awareness for girl education
  • Lack of availability for quality earning material

These are just the main hurdles that India has in education planning. If you go deeper, you will understand how they affect education for the next generation. Students need to get motivation from their families to study rather than to earn. Considering the hurdles, the Government has also taken some steps that will help to make a better and more effective education planning in India.

Steps to Make Education Planning Significant in India 

No planning can work if its hurdles are not specified. A team of very qualified officials is involved in education planning. The team members analyze the hurdles in the implementation of planning and also suggest ways to remove them. The growth of education is emphasizing at the district, state and central levels. For this, the more crucial step was to measure universal elementary education in all, including adults. Here are the other important steps that Government has taken to make education planning significant in India;

  • Increase the number of elementary schools and colleges in Villages.
  • By filling all the vacant posts of teachers at the state and central level.
  • The government makes the education material and other accessories like school bags, uniforms and shoes available to the students.
  • By introducing and implementing a Mid-Day meal scheme.
  • Introducing various scholarship schemes
  • Change in B.Ed degree time and structure
  • Introduced District Elementary Education plan
  • To make education free to the children
  • By providing E-learning material to the teachers and students
  • Plan to have more IITs and IIMs in the country
  • To offer improves training in it is, and Polytechnic colleges.
  • By launching education channels

Education is essential for all the countries and all the culture. An educated society becomes the base for an innovative and advanced generation. Importance of education planning increases in India because of diversities and poverty. The Government is offering education for free in government schools but do students get quality education there? Is the number of teachers sufficient? All these things are checked at the district level. The more involvement of district-level education officers can help education planning to be more significant and effective.
