Merin Joseph: A dashing young IPS from Kerala, Who Became an Internet Sensation

Merin Joseph, became a celebrity on social media overnight due to her looks that are no less than a Bollywood actress or a model. Joseph became an IPS officer of Kerala at the age of 25 years after clearing the Civil Services Exam conducted by the UPSC in her first attempt.

She is born and brought up in Delhi by her working parents, her mother is a teacher of economics and father is principal advisor to the ministry. Merin graduated from St. Stephen’s College, Delhi, and studied the Master of Arts in History from the same college.

She took training at the Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel National Police Academy, Hyderabad to become a tough IPS officer. The routine at the academy was very tough, starting with 4:45 AM wakeup call to physical activities that included exercises and running. Joseph has said in an interview that the training at the academy introduces you to your tough side, makes you physically strong but also makes you a tough soul. She used to undergo activities such as weapons training, horse riding, swimming, and driving, etc.

When Merin Joseph Felt Proud

It was a proud moment for Merin when she lead the Indian delegation for the Y20, an official youth engagement program of the G20 Countries, summit during her academy days. The pride moments does not end here, Merin Joseph succeeded in UPSC Exam and eventually became an inspiration for all, especially for Indian women. She always desired to become an IAS officer but was destined to be an IPS officer and she is happy with the service, currently serving as Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP).

The Topper Strategy

Preparing for Civil Services demands a dedicated hard work that takes you to success, Jospeh’s hardwork paid her off with the position of IPS. She is a 2012 batch IPS. She scored 188 rank in the UPSC exam, with a total of 991 marks out of 2300 marks in her mains exam which equals to 43%.

Because of her beautiful looks, she became a trending topic on social media after her photo was shared on Facebook by a page called “Kochi Pazhaya Kochiyalla”, which became viral over the net. Not just limited to this, several newspapers also came up with stories that highlighted her beauty. One such story from The Hindu was titled Pretty Tough Cop that quoted Merin as the dashing young IPS officer.

The media has also compared police officer look of Priyanka Chopra in the film “Jai Gangaajal” to this young police officer Merin Joseph, because both are beautiful ladies donning the police uniform. Priyanka looks tough and pretty in her onscreen avatar in a khaki uniform, while Merin grabbed the fame for being a young pretty female IPS officer in real life.
